New Smyrna Beach has been voted one of the "Best Beaches" in Florida
by the readers of the Orlando Sentinell. New Smyrna Beach has much
to offer including excellent backwater and offshore fishing,
historical sites ,golf, cultural events, shopping and dining for all
tastes on historical Flagler Avenue and Canal Street.
South of New Smyrna lies the Canaveral National Seashore, offering
excellent swimming, bird watching, hiking and more. Anglers at
nearby Mosquito Lagoon have set international records with giant
redfish catches. Deep-sea charters leave New Smyrna Beach daily for
offshore fishing in the beautiful Atlantic Ocean .
Many historical and cultural sites also make New Smyrna Beach
noteworthy. From the Turnbull and Sugar Mill Ruins, to the Eldora
State House and the Ponce Inlet lighthouse, the area is rich in
history.
Named one of " America 's Top Small Cities for The Arts," New Smyrna
is home to the Atlantic Center for the Arts, an artists-in-residence
community and educational facility, the Harris House, the Little
Theatre and Arts on Douglas . Art shows featuring visual and

Flagler Avenue and Canal Street , which were recently renovated,
feature several quaint shops and cafes. It should be no surprise
that the second oldest city in Florida is also home to many antique
shopping pavilions.

There are six golf courses within ten to thirty minutes drive: A little further afield is Single Creek in Orlando.The Beach

Their are more than 13 miles of pristine white sand beaches with an additional 24 miles of coastline at nearby Canaveral National Seashore, which is located on the south end of the island. Eating Out
The greater New Smyrna Beach area boasts a variety of dining options ranging from traditional fare to gourmet. While the area has its share of chain dining establishments, it is unusual in the number of one-of-a-kind restaurants. Many are family owned and operated and have been keeping dinners satisfied for decades.Some very local highly recommended restaurants are Black Beards for fish and steaks, Riverside View and Norwoods for upmarket dining and Clancy's for good basic food with a friendly welcoming atmosphere!
Shopping
Shoppers are delighted by the areas boutiques, antique shops and art galleries. Flagler Avenue and Canal Street are the city's two main historic shopping locales where turn-of-the-century houses and buildings have been converted into retail space. Flagler Avenue has more than 50 unique shops just steps away from the Ocean.Red brick sidewalks and a canopy of palm create a relaxed atmosphere for strolling and shopping. On Canal Street there's even an old fashioned drug store complete with soda fountain!
History
New Smyrna Beach is one of the oldest settlements in the United States. Historical highlights include:Turtle Mound/Seminole Rest
This ancient site was created by the Timucian Native Americans over several hundred years. Archaeologists have uncovered numerous artifacts hidden within the mound. Visitors will discover breathtaking views.
Eldora House
This Dutch Colonial designed, water edge house was built in 1910. Located in Canaveral National Seashore it is open daily to visitors.
Sugar Mill Ruins
This is one of the remains of sixteen sugar mills built between New Smyrna Beach and St Augustine in the 1830's.
Old Fort Park
Now a river front park, the remains are rumored to be a Spanish fort of Andrew Turnbull's town mansion built in the early 19th century.
